Alright, I’m in a silly mood today, thus my little song for you about premarital counseling. On a more serious note, did you know in a study about marital satisfaction, the couples who completed some sort of marriage preparation or education had “higher levels of marital satisfaction, lower levels of destructive conflicts… [and] a 31% decrease in the odds of divorce” (Stanley, Amato, Johnson & Markman, 2006)? If you want to set your marriage up for success and avoid months or even years of difficult, tearful marriage therapy in the future, you might want to consider premarital counseling.

As a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator along with having years of specialized education and training to work with couples, I can tell you that premarital counseling is invaluable to putting your relationship on the right path. In just a few short sessions, you will have completed a crash course to learn more about yourself and your partner than you thought possible. Both of you will find your best communication styles, navigate conflict more effectively, and discuss your future together with a professional who knows what questions to ask. Completing this work is essential for avoiding future conflict in those first tough years. Premarital counseling has also proven effective for having a happier marriage and life overall that can even affect your children’s lives as well.

So even as important as your wedding day is, shouldn’t the rest of your life together have some priority as you plan all the pieces of your big day? If you would like to consider premarital counseling, please give me a call (720-381-2755) or send me an email (tradewindstherapy at gmail dot com) and I’ll be happy to talk with you.
